▪️ Reflection on the words of Luke 1:17a ▪️

And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah.

Believers in Gospel times knew well about Elijah from the Scriptures. Many Israelites longed that hypocrisy and politics would be removed from the Jewish church of that time. They wanted the coming of a prophet like Elijah.

King Ahab did not like Elijah the prophet. He asked, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?” Elijah answered, “I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father's house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord and have followed the Baals” (1Ki.18:17-18).

Elijah’s life was difficult, full of sorrow and danger. God was close to him. The prophet firmly condemned compromise with the worship of false gods.

“How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him” (1Ki.18:21).

Might such a call be relevant in our time?
