But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.

The angel Gabriel punished the priest Zacharias for his unbelief and doubt in God’s words. God is longsuffering, but not endlessly. Zacharias asked, “How shall I know this?” But from Scripture he could know that similar things had happened, for example with Abraham, who was about a hundred years old.

“And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead... He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith... and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore ‘it was accounted to him for righteousness’” (Rom.4:19-22).

Let us notice that for each of us the testimony of Scripture should in many things be enough.
