▪️ The Gospel According to Luke 1:19 ▪️
And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings.”
It is surprising, but the heavenly messenger had to explain to the priest Zacharias his position before God. The angel introduced himself and gave his name.
Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God—this angel held a high position among the angels. God entrusted to him the message about the births of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ Himself. “Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary” (Luke.1:26-27).
The angel explained that he was sent and did not act by himself. This was clear. But we people sometimes need explanations beyond what should be enough. Let us value that God is longsuffering.
