▪️ The Gospel According to Luke 1:17d ▪️
“To make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
According to prophecy, and therefore to God’s will, John the Baptist, “in the spirit and power of Elijah,” had to prepare the people. Prepare for what? For the greatest event in the history of our sinful Earth—the coming in human flesh of the Son of God. Otherwise Christ would come, but people would not know and would not be ready.
What did this preparation mean? Jesus was miraculously born on Earth by God’s will, not man’s. But people themselves had to prepare for this meeting. “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; Because I will do this to you, Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!” (Amos.4:12).
Christ’s Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom, but spiritual. So the heart had to be prepared: repent of sins and leave them with God’s help, by faith in redemption. Today this question remains important, now concerning the future Second Coming of Christ.
